Today is my first entry and probably will be one of the most historic days in Turkey's history. As well as it being the 30th anniversary of the 1980 coup d'etat, it is also the day the people approved of the constitutional referendum. It was astonishing that the voter turn out was up to 78%, because there isn't even that big of a turn out in the United States.
Today also is the Championship finals for the FIBA World Cup, ironically between Turkey and USA. While watching the game, both on ESPN and the Turkish channel, I noticed everything was run different (and rightly so). What ESPN did not feature was the welcome the Turkish crowd gave to their Prime Minister Erdogan. Major of the stadium boo'd and shouted against the official.
That day many turks lost. 42% of the voters voted No which shows exactly how divided the nation is on the matter.
